The Reds are currently sitting five points clear at the top of the Premier League table following a perfect start to the new season.
Liverpool FC were 3-1 winners against Newcastle United at Anfield on Saturday afternoon courtesy of goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
Manchester City lost 3-2 to promoted side Norwich City to lose further ground on their Premier League title rivals.
Pep Guardiola’s side won the Premier League title last season after the Citizens finished a point ahead of Liverpool FC on 98 points.
But the Reds won the Champions League title thanks to a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Madrid final.
Liverpool FC beat Bayern Munich, FC Porto and FC Barcelona to reach the Champions League final.
However, former Reds defender Carragher explained why he still considers Manchester City to be the premier team in Europe.
Carragher wrote on Twitter: “I think City are the best team in Europe & LFC a very close second! Winning the CL doesn’t mean you’re the best in Europe as it’s a cup competition & there’s no way we were the best in 2005!!!!!”
Liverpool FC have never won the Premier League title despite finishing in second place on four separate occasions.
The Reds finished as runners up in 2002, 2009, 2014 and 2018 under Gerard Houllier, Rafael Benitez, Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool FC didn’t sign any big-name players in the summer, although the Reds did conclude deals for Harvey Elliott, Sepp van der Berg and Adrian.
