Jamie Carragher praised Liverpool FC for seeing out a “tough” game and claiming a 2-1 win over Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds battled to a hard-earned win at Stamford Bridge as they continued their 100 per cent start to the season with a victory in west London.

Trent Alexander-Arnold fired the visitors into the lead with a superb free-kick, before Roberto Firmino made it 2-0 to the Reds inside half an hour.

Chelsea FC improved in the second half and halved the deficit when N’Golo Kante fired home an excellent solo goal.

However, Liverpool FC held on to claim all three points and regain their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game, Carragher said: “They are a Premier League rival.

“Coming to Chelsea, no matter who they’ve got out, is a very tough game. It’s still a big thing to come here and win.”

Liverpool FC legend Carragher also praised Joel Matip for his solid display, especially in the second half, as he picked him as his man of the match.

He continued: “I’m actually going to go for this man, Joel Matip. It’s for his second-half performance.

“Normally Virgil van Dijk gets all the plaudits but certainly in the last 10-15 minutes he won some huge headers for Liverpool and defended set pieces.”

Liverpool FC will host MK Dons in the third round of the League Cup at Anfield on Wednesday night.
