Rio Ferdinand believes that Liverpool FC are the “team to beat” in the Champions League this season following their fine start to the new campaign.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have won all five of their Premier League games so far this term to lead the way at the top of the table ahead of Manchester City.

Liverpool FC are five points clear at the top of the table as they look to win the Premier League title for the first time under Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds did suffer their first defeat of the season in Europe on Tuesday night when they were beaten 2-0 by Napoli in Italy in their Champions League opener.

However, former Manchester United star Ferdinand still seems to think that the Reds are the team to beat in the Champions League this season.

Speaking to BT Sport before Tuesday’s game, Ferdinand said: “City were my favourites at the beginning of the season, and they’re the favourites with the bookies.

“But I think Liverpool are the team to beat, for what they’ve done last year.

“On any given day, they’ll beat anyone. Juventus have got a deep squad, but English teams are in a cycle of where I think we’ve been performing well.

“This season, as a group, I don’t think it’ll be as dominant [for English clubs] as it was last year.”

Liverpool FC will now switch their attentions towards their crunch Premier League showdown against Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Chelsea FC are also looking to try and bounce back to winning ways after they went down 1-0 to Valencia in their Champions League group stage opener on Tuesday night.
