The Netherlands international has been a regular fixture in the first team at Anfield since having signed for the Reds from Southampton in the January transfer window back in 2018.
Van Dijk has helped to steady the defence at Anfield and he played a key role in helping the Reds to win their first major trophy under Jurgen Klopp last season as they lifted the Champions League.
The 28-year-old was named as the PFA player of the year last season following his sparkling displays at the back last term.
And former Southampton star Le Tissier says that Van Dijk is clearly the best in his position in the Premier League.
Naming his best combined Premier League XI for Sky Sports, Le Tissier said: “Virgil van Dijk is my first choice as centre-back.
“It does not need too much explanation! He has been the best centre-back in the Premier League over the last two seasons and perhaps in the world.”
Liverpool FC are currently preparing for their Premier League trip to Chelsea FC on Sunday afternoon as they look to make it six wins in a row in the top flight.
The Reds suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat by Napoli in their Champions League group stage opener on Tuesday night.
