The Dutch starlet has a big reputation at Old Trafford but Chong has been unable to break into the Manchester United first-team on a regular basis so far.
Solskjaer handed Chong his Manchester United debut in a 2-0 victory over Reading in the FA Cup third round last term before Chong went on to make a further four appearances.
Chong had the opportunity to move on loan in the summer in order to get more first-team experience under his belt and regular first-team minutes at a European club.
However, the Manchester United starlet opted to remain at the 20-time English champions beyond the most recent transfer window.
And Chong lifted the lid on his conversation with Solskjaer about his future at Manchester United.
“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says, ‘keep working hard, your chances will come’,” Chong told Voetbal Primeur, as quoted by talkSPORT.
“That’s nice to hear. There are a few players away from Manchester United and I’m climbing the pecking order now.
“It’s always nice to come back to the Netherlands, but in the end I have to do what I find best for myself. That’s why I decided to stay.”
Chong moved to Manchester United from Eredivisie side Feyenoord in 2016.
Solskjaer hasn’t been afraid to give youth a chance since the Norwegian head coach took over the reins from Jose Mourinho back in December.
Manchester United will host Leicester City in their next Premier League game at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
