Roy Carroll issues his backing for David De Gea at Man United
Roy Carroll is tipping David De Gea to turn things around at Man United after his patchy form
Roy Carroll is tipping David De Gea to bounce back from his patchy form at Manchester United.
The Spanish shot-stopper is widely regarded to be one of the top goalkeepers in European football, but the former Atletico Madrid man has struggled to produce consistent performances between the posts for the Red Devils in recent months.
Manchester United have conceded only four times in four games this season, but the Red Devils have been only able to win one of their four Premier League matches so far.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Carroll is backing De Gea to bounce back from his below-par performances at Old Trafford.
Speaking in an interview with TheSportsman.com, Carroll said: “It’s always important to have a good keeper. He was one of the best keepers a year and a half ago, everybody saying he was one of the best in the world.
“Keepers go through a bad time. You need people to be behind you and David De Gea will come back stronger again.
“I know that keepers need confidence and he’s got bad confidence at the moment. Even playing for Spain as well, the confidence goes and it’s very hard to get back.
“You need a manager who believes in you and I think that Ole will give that backing to him.”
De Gea joined Manchester United from Atletico Madrid back in 2011 and he has won one Premier League title with the Red Devils since the switch.
The 28-year-old has also won the FA Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League with the Red Devils.
Manchester United – who are seven points behind leaders Liverpool FC – will return to Premier League action on Saturday when they host Leicester City at Old Trafford.
They are without a win since their opening weekend victory over Chelsea FC at Old Trafford back in August.
