Manchester United have identified Jan Oblak as the perfect replacement for David De Gea should the Spaniard leave the club, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish outlet AS, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News, is reporting that the Red Devils have singled out Oblak as their top target should they fail to convince De Gea to sign a new deal at the club.

As most Manchester United fans will already know, De Gea’s contract at Old Trafford is due to expire in the summer of 2020, meaning that he could potentially leave the club on a free transfer next summer if he does not sign a new deal.

The same story says that Manchester United had previously expected De Gea to sign a new deal at Old Trafford, but negotiations are said to have stalled.

According to the same story, Manchester United have “pinpointed” Oblak as their top target should De Gea leave, and the 26-year-old is open to the idea of leaving Atletico Madrid.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Leicester City in front of their home fans at Old Trafford on Saturday 14 September.
