Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says that Mason Greenwood is one of the best finishers at Manchester United after he fired the Red Devils to victory over Astana on Thursday night.

The 17-year-old scored the only goal of the game in the 73rd minute at Old Trafford as the Red Devils kicked off their Europa League campaign with a victory in front of their home fans.

The youngster had been limited to just substitute appearances for Manchester United in the Premier League this term but Solskjaer opted to play the teenager from the start in Thursday’s clash.

And the young forward repaid his manager’s faith by hitting the winner in the second half, much to the delight of the home fans at Old Trafford.

Speaking at his post-match news conference, Solskjaer singled out Greenwood for special praise and underlined his potential.

Solskjaer said: “In and around the box he’s one of the best finishers we’ve got and I’m happy he got his goal. I’m sure he’ll go home tonight and be happy with that one.

“He’s a natural finisher and he’s confident in front of goal. He is able to go inside and finish with his left foot as we saw in the first half.

“He’s able to go outside and finish with his right, like in the second half. It’s a great attribute to have, to be not 50-50 but 60-60, because he’s better than 100 per cent.”

Manchester United will now turn their attentions towards preparing for the Premier League trip to West Ham United on Sunday afternoon as they bid to make it three wins in a row in all competitions.

Solskjaer continued: “We have prepared for the [West Ham] game already this week. We’ve had two games in our eyes or two games that we’ve been looking forward to.

“Tomorrow [Friday] will be a recovery day for everyone and Saturday a preparation day, so we’re set for that one.”

Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy last term.
