Stan Collymore believes that Marcus Rashford is in danger of becoming the “modern-day Theo Walcott” at Manchester United.

The 21-year-old is widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s finest young attacking talents and he has been a regular fixture in the Manchester United team in recent seasons.

The youngster is now expected to lead the line for the Red Devils at Old Trafford after the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan in the summer transfer window.

Rashford is not considered to be an out-and-out striker and there has been much debate about his prime position for the Red Devils in recent weeks.

And former Liverpool FC star Collymore feels that Rashford has to be careful about his situation and focus on one specific position for his game.

Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Collymore said: “If Marcus Rashford isn’t careful then, sooner rather than later, he is going to find himself cast as the modern-day Theo Walcott.

“Someone who isn’t seen as an out-and-out winger or straight-up No.9 but a Jack of all trades as a forward and master of none.

“That’s why now is the perfect time for him to decide whether that’s the way he wants to go. Or would he rather be a player who lives or dies as a No.9.

“If he’s happy to play anywhere if it means being an England regular then that’s his call.

“But if that is the case over the next five to 10 years then I worry about the negative impact such a decision could have on his club career because of the message it sends.”

Manchester United will return to Premier League action after the international break on Saturday when they take on Leicester City at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are aiming to get back to winning ways after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton at St Mary’s last time out.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have only won one Premier League game so far this season.
