Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told his Manchester United players that they need to be ready to beat the best after they were pitted against Chelsea FC in the fourth round of the League Cup.

Manchester United successfully booked their place in the fourth round of the cup competition thanks to a penalty shootout win over Rochdale at Old Trafford after a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Chelsea FC secured their spot in the fourth-round draw thanks to their 7-1 thrashing of Grimsby Town in front of their home fans at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

Manchester United will now travel to Chelsea FC for their fourth round clash against the Blues at the end of October as they look to progress through to the fifth round of the competition.

And Solskjaer has told his players that they must prepare to face the best if they want to have hope of winning the competition this season.

Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Solskjaer said: “If you want to win it then you have to beat the best.

“We played them first game of the season this year, we played them in the FA Cup last year. ‘It slots nicely into a couple of weeks with loads of travelling!

“That’s how it is and we’ve got to make the best out of it. I’m sure we are because that’s the type of group this is, that’s the type of club we are.

“We’re not gonna say, “Ahh!” – we’re going to relish it and look forward to it.’

Meanwhile, Manchester United will return to Premier League action next week when they host Arsenal in the top flight at Old Trafford on Monday 30 September.

The Red Devils are aiming to bounce back to winning ways after the disappointment of their 2-0 loss to West Ham United in London last time out.
