Ed Woodward wants former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Saar to become the club’s director of football, according to a report in England.

The Daily Mirror, as quoted by the Daily Express, is reporting that Manchester United executive vice-chairman Woodward is looking to appoint a new director of football.

The same article states that Woodward is eyeing the potential appointment Van der Sar as the club’s director of football following his excellent work with Ajax.

According to the same story, Manchester United are attracted by Van der Sar’s work developing young talent at Ajax such as Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong.

The report goes on to add that the Red Devils could find it difficult to prise the 48-year-old away from last season’s Champions League semi-finalists, however.

Manchester United have made a poor start to the Premier League season after collecting five points from their opening four games.

The Red Devils lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford last month as they suffered their first defeat of the 2018-19 campaign.

Manchester United have failed to win their last three Premier League games to leave the Red Devils off the pace in the title race.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James in the summer transfer window.
