James Maddison has underlined his intention to play at the top level amid reports linking the Leicester City star with a move to Manchester United.

The England international has been a big hit in the Premier League since his move to Leicester from Norwich City in a £20m deal in the 2018 summer transfer window.

Maddison scored seven times and made seven assists in his first season in the English top flight to prompt speculation that Manchester United wanted to sign the playmaker.

The 22-year-old remained at the 20-time English champions beyond the summer transfer window despite being linked with a number of top Premier League clubs.

Maddison is still waiting to open his account in the Premier League this season.

Asked about his desire to play at the highest level following summer reports linking Maddison with Manchester United, the England international told the Daily Mirror:

“I want to play at the highest level my ability will allow me to.

“I like to think I’ve my head screwed on with the transfers I’ve made.

“I’ve played League One, in Scotland, the Championship and the Premier League. I worked my way up.”

Maddison will get the chance to impress Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the Old Trafford crown when Leicester make the trip to the Red Devils on Saturday.

Manchester United signed Maddison’s team-mate Harry Maguire in a £80m deal from Leicester during the summer transfer window to make the centre-half the world’s most expensive defender.
