Manchester United could allow Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to sign a new midfielder in the January transfer window, according to a report in England.

The Manchester Evening News is reporting that the Red Devils could make funds available for Solskjaer in the next transfer market.

The same article states that Manchester United wanted to strengthen their midfield in the summer but missed out on the signing of Sean Longstaff.

According to the same story, Solskjaer has already held meetings with Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to discuss potential targets.

The Manchester Evening News go on to add that the Red Devils have funds to invest in new playing talent following Romelu Lukaku’s move to Inter Milan earlier this month.

The story says that Manchester United are unlikely to sign Newcastle midfielder Longstaff and West Ham United star Declan Rice in the January transfer window.

Manchester United have failed to win their last three Premier League games following stalemates with Wolves and Southampton, while the Red Devils lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils will welcome Harry Maguire’s former club Leicester City to Old Trafford in their next Premier League fixture at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Manchester United have earned five points from four league games.
