Michael Owen is backing Manchester United to win to nil against FC Astana on Thursday night.
The Red Devils will switch their focus to the Europa League from the Premier League this week following a mixed start to their domestic season.
Manchester United edged to a 1-0 win against Leicester City at Old Trafford on Saturday thanks to Marcus Rashford’s first-half penalty.
The 20-time English champions have collected eight points from their opening five Premier League fixtures, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are currently in fourth spot in the Premier League table.
Manchester United’s last major trophy win was the Europa League in 2017, when the Red Devils beat Ajax in the final.
Former Manchester United striker Owen is backing the Red Devils to ease to a straightforward win over FC Astana in their group-stage opener at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
“United gained a narrow, but much-needed, win against Leicester on Saturday and should follow it up in what is the first European game between English and Kazakhstani clubs,” Owen told BetVictor.
“Astana lost 2-0 against Bate Borisov in Belarus in the last qualifying round but had won the 1st leg 3-0.
“It would be disappointing if United did not get their Europa League campaign off to a winning start.”
This is Man United’s first Uefa encounter against opposition from Kazakhstan and also Astana’s first against a club from England.
The Red Devils managed to reach the Champions League quarter-finals last term before losing to La Liga champions FC Barcelona in the round of eight.
Manchester United signed Swansea City winger Daniel James, Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Leicester City centre-half Harry Maguire in the summer transfer window.
