Michael Owen states his prediction for Man United v Rochdale
BT Sport pundit Michael Owen is confident Man United will ease to victory over Rochdale on Wednesday night
Michael Owen is confident Manchester United will avoid an upset with a straightforward win over Rochdale in the League Cup third round on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils will be eager to make amends for a disappointing 2-0 defeat by West Ham United in the Premier League at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United have only managed to win two of their opening six games in the Premier League to leave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side well off the pace in the title race.
The 20-time English champions could be facing a battle to secure a top-four spot given the promising performances of Leicester City and West Ham so far this term.
Solskjaer didn’t win any silverware in his first season as Manchester United boss but the Carabao Cup represents a chance to make some inroads in a cup competition.
Manchester United will take on their local rivals Rochdale in the third round as the Premier League side host the League One outfit at Old Trafford.
Former Red Devils striker Owen is backing Manchester United to ease to a straightforward win against Rochdale to build some confidence.
“United are short of striking options with Marcus Rashford hobbling off with what looked like a groin injury against West Ham on Sunday,” Owen told BetVictor.
“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is optimistic, however, that Mason Greenwood, who scored the winner against Astana on Thursday in the Europa League, will be over the illness that prevented him travelling to London at the weekend.
“Rochdale have lost three of their last four games in all competitions and I expect to see United return to winning ways back on home soil.”
The Red Devils reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League and the League Cup last term.
