Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Tottenham v Crystal Palace
BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson is confident Tottenham Hotspur will secure a much-needed win against Crystal Palace on Saturday
Mark Lawrenson is backing Tottenham Hotspur to end their winless run with a much-needed victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.
Tottenham were tipped to challenge defending Premier League champions Manchester City and Liverpool FC for the top-flight crown this season.
However, Spurs have failed to live up to that billing so far following one victory in their opening four Premier League games.
Tottenham were 3-1 winners against Aston Villa in their season opener but Spurs have played out 2-2 draws with Arsenal and Manchester City.
Although those results weren’t disasters for the north London side, Mauricio Pochettino’s men did suffer a surprise 1-0 loss to Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Crystal Palace have a reputation for being giant slayers under Roy Hodgson, having secure victories at Liverpool FC and Manchester City in recent seasons.
The Eagles were 2-1 winners against Manchester United at Old Trafford back in August to further underline their ability to cause an upset on any given weekend.
Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is confident Spurs will come through the challenge comfortably.
“Tottenham have not really hit their stride yet, but they are still a good side and it is obviously a boost for them that they kept hold of Christian Eriksen,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“This should be a good game, because Crystal Palace are flying high at the moment and have already won at Old Trafford this season.”
Tottenham reached the Champions League final last season thanks to victories over Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Ajax in the knockout rounds.
Spurs lost 2-0 to their bitter Premier League rivals Liverpool FC in the Champions League showpiece.
