The German playmaker has struggled to secure a regular starting spot in the Arsenal team this season.
Ozil has started one Premier League fixture this term, getting a mere 71 minutes under his belt.
The Arsenal star is the best-paid player at the north London side but Ozil has been unable to find a route in Unai Emery’s starting XI.
Ozil’s future continues to be a source of debate after the Arsenal midfielder was linked with a summer move away from the club.
Former Arsenal defender Keown believes Ozil will struggle to reclaim a place in Emery’s team unless he’s prepared to work hard.
“I think it’s disappointing that someone with that amount of talent can’t find his way into an Arsenal team,” Keown is quoted as saying by Metro.
“And again, that’s about balance. That’s about a player wanting to graft and show the other side of his game.
“Until he does that, he won’t be in this new Arsenal team.”
Ozil moved to Arsenal in a £42.5m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the 2013 summer transfer window.
The World Cup winner helped Arsenal to win the FA Cup three times but the German playmaker was unable to fire the Gunners to Premier League or Champions League titles.
In fact, Arsenal have struggled to qualify for the Champions League since Ozil’s arrival at The Emirates, missing out on a top-four finish in the last three seasons.
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04, when Arsene Wenger’s team finished the season unbeaten.
