Arsenal are leading the race to sign Villarreal defender Pau Torres, according to reports
Arsenal are leading the race to sign Villarreal defender Pau Torres ahead of the likes of Chelsea FC and Manchester City, according to reports in the British media.
Website 90min is reporting that the north London side are keen on a deal to land the 22-year-old centre-half as the lead-up to the January window gathers pace.
The same story says that Arsenal have already expressed a “strong interest” in landing the Spaniard, who has scored one goal in eight La Liga appearances so far this season.
According to the same article, Arsenal were first notified about Torres after having been tipped off by their former playmaker Santi Cazorla about his talent.
Arsenal could face competition for Torres’ signature, however, with Manchester City and Chelsea FC also said to be monitoring the defender in the same report.
The same story says that although Torres has recently signed a new deal with his hometown side, Arsenal are confident that they would be able to tempt the La Liga club into selling next summer with the right offer.
Arsenal are currently preparing for their trip to Sheffield United in the Premier League on Monday night as they bid to keep their spot in the top four.
