David Luiz has insisted that he “didn’t think twice” about leaving Chelsea FC to sign for Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian defender arrived at The Emirates back in August as the Blues opted to let the centre-half leave Stamford Bridge and sign for their London rivals.

David Luiz has been a regular fixture in the Arsenal team since his move to The Emirates after Frank Lampard opted to let the 32-year-old leave the west London side.

The Brazil international has now revealed how a conversation between him and Lampard prompted his move to Arsenal from Chelsea FC this summer.

Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, David Luiz said: “I always liked Chelsea, no doubt.

“A new moment has come in my career, a new cycle where I have had the opportunity to move to another major club, pursuing ambitions to win titles.

“I saw a possibility of writing a new story in a new place, but I am forever grateful to Chelsea, to all people, to friendships that are for life.

“I get messages to this day from everyone at the club because what I had there was true.”

Asked to explain his motivation for leaving Chelsea FC for Arsenal, David Luiz added: “It was an individual decision made through honest conversation – between me and Frank Lampard, no one else.

“We had a different idea of the future of the game and that’s why I chose to take a new path.

“It’s always very difficult because of the rivalry, but I made the decision to leave Chelsea even before receiving Arsenal’s bid.

“As soon as I decided to leave Chelsea – after a few days – Arsenal’s proposal came, and as it was another great club, I didn’t think twice.

“It’s hard for rivalry, yes, but I couldn’t help but live a new story, in a new place, in a big club just because of the rivalry.”

Arsenal will return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Sheffield United away from home on Monday 21 October.

They will then return to Europa League action with a home clash against Vitoria three days later.

David Luiz is aiming to try and help the Gunners break back into the top four this season after they finished fifth and without a trophy under Unai Emery last term.
