Ian Wright: What I think about Mason Mount at Chelsea FC
Ian Wright has his say on Mason Mount's fine start to the new season with Chelsea FC
Ian Wright has heaped praise on Mason Mount for producing influential performances for Chelsea FC this season.
The 20-year-old has been a regular fixture in the Blues first team this season since returning to Stamford Bridge from his loan spell under Frank Lampard at Derby County last season.
Mount has been in impressive form and he has started all seven of Chelsea FC’s games this season, scoring three goals for the west London side in the top flight.
The youngster was influential in Chelsea FC’s 2-0 win over Brighton at the weekend as he won the penalty that allowed Jorginho to give the home side the lead in the second half.
And Arsenal legend Wright has admitted that he has been very impressed by what he has seen from Mount in a Chelsea FC shirt under Lampard this season.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Wright said of Mount: “He’s taken the opportunity, Frank’s shown a lot of faith in him.”
He continued: “They [Chelsea FC] did create a lot of chances today, I thought they wasted a few of the chances.
“But Mason Mount, he’s somebody that is making a difference, especially in this area of the field.
“Once he gets on it, the pace, the power, the skill. Once he gets the ball in this situation he’s taking people on, he’s trying to create something in there.”
He added: “With the penalty, he’s literally sniffed it out. The defender’s had a nightmare there but he’s sharp enough, he’s got in there. Great penalty from Jorginho.”
Mount will be hoping to start his first ever Champions League away game on Wednesday night when the Blues travel to Lille in the group stage.
The west London side are looking to bounce back from the disappointment of their 1-0 loss to Valencia in their group opener last month.
