Jamie Redknapp singles out Mason Mount for special praise after Chelsea FC's Premier League win at Southampton
Jamie Redknapp singled out Mason Mount for special praise after the youngster continued his fine start to the season by scoring in Chelsea FC’s 4-1 win at Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
The 20-year-old England international has been in top form for the Blues under Frank Lampard this term and he continued his strong start with another good display on the south coast.
Tammy Abraham gave the visitors the lead in the 17th minute at St Mary’s when his looping effort cross the goal line.
The Blues then went 2-0 up thanks to Mount’s strike in the 24th minute as the youngster continued his fine start to the season.
Danny Ings pulled a goal back for the hosts, but N’Golo Kante netted in the 40th minute to make it 3-1 at half-time.
Substitute Michy Batshuayi then made it 4-1 with a late low strike to help Chelsea FC move up into fifth place in the Premier League table.
Speaking during Sky Sports’ coverage of the game, former midfielder Redknapp singled out Mount for his impressive role in Chelsea FC’s second goal.
Redknapp said: “Mason Mount – the second goal is all about him.
“He so often starts the press for this Chelsea side. The first touch is exceptional as is the second one, which sits the goalkeeper down, and it’s a lovely finish.
“So often we see players with no desire to go and chase a lost cause.
“He’s really brave, wins the header and is thinking about how he can get the next pass.
“It’s brilliant and it just shows how important this guy is for them right now. He’s a special talent.”
Mount will be hoping to feature once again for Chelsea FC when the Blues return to Premier League action with a home clash against Southampton after the international break on Saturday 19 October.
