Michael Owen reveals his prediction for Genk v Liverpool FC
Michael Owen looks ahead to Liverpool FC's trip to Genk in the Champions League on Wednesday night
Michael Owen is backing Liverpool FC to claim victory when they travel to Genk in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Reds head into the game looking to return to winning ways after they had to fight back from a goal down to claim a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool FC will be looking to end a run of away defeats in the Champions League group stage as they travel to Belgium to face Genk.
Jurgen Klopp’s holders bounced back from an opening loss at Napoli with a dramatic home victory against Salzburg last time out – and they sit level on points with Salzburg and one behind section leaders Napoli.
Former Liverpool FC and England star Owen is backing the Reds to claim all three points from their midweek trip to Belgium.
Writing in his column for BetVictor, Owen said: “Genk have drawn all four of their home games in the group stages of the Champions League including a goalless draw against Napoli on Matchday two.
“Liverpool survived a scare against Salzburg to pick up three points last time but, after their reverse in Italy on the opening night, the holders do need a positive result.
“Genk lost in Liege on Saturday and currently sit third in the Belgium First Division. I think the Reds will gain a vital three points and stamp their authority on the group.”
This is the first fixture between the sides, and only Genk’s third game against an English club. Liverpool FC have not faced Belgian opposition in more than 11 years.
Klopp’s men are currently flying six points clear at the top of the Premier League table as they look to go one step further than they did last season and lift the trophy this time around.
