Sky Sports pundit states his prediction for Lille v Chelsea FC
Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas believes Chelsea FC will earn a point at Lille on Wednesday night
Charlie Nicholas is tipping Chelsea FC to secure a point at Lille in the Champions League group stage on Wednesday night.
The Blues will take on the French side in search of a first Champions League victory following a 1-0 loss to La Liga outfit Valencia last month.
Chelsea FC missed out on the chance to get their campaign off to a decent start when Ross Barkley missed a penalty in the Stamford Bridge clash.
Their opponents Lille lost 3-0 to last year’s Champions League semi-finalists Ajax to make a disappointing start to their group-stage campaign.
Chelsea FC have never faced Lille in a European fixture before Wednesday night – and the Blues have never won on the road in the Champions League in France.
Former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas is backing Chelsea FC to earn a point at Lille in their Champions League meeting at Stade Pierre Mauroy on Wednesday night.
“This is a very awkward tie,” Lampard told Sky Sports.
“I am trying to work out how Frank Lampard goes about this. When is the right time to put all of these youngsters in together? If he can use them, he would much prefer to use them at home.
“After being on a high, you do not want to flip the switch and raise question marks.
“He will go with a solid base I think for that reason. Lille drew 1-1 away at Nice at the weekend and are sitting pretty comfortable in fourth, so this is a test for Chelsea. I think they may get something from this, but it will be a more experienced Chelsea side that we see.”
Chelsea FC were unbeaten in European competitions last season, claiming the Europa League title with a record of 12 victories and three draws.
Before losing to Valencia in the first round of group-stage fixtures, their last European defeat had come at FC Barcelona in the Champions League round of 16 second leg in March 2018.
The Blues lost on penalties against Liverpool FC in the Uefa Super Cup in August following a 2-2 draw after 120 minutes in Istanbul.
