Mo Salah has admitted that he was delighted to see Andy Robertson open his Champions League account on Wednesday night.

Sadio Mane broke the deadlock against Red Bull Salzburg with a superb solo goal to score for the fifth time this season.

Robertson doubled the home side’s lead when he got on the end of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross to finish from close range.

The Scotland international’s movement inside the penalty area led BT Sport pundit Peter Crouch to liken Robertson to Ian Rush and Michael Owen.

Salah then scored either side of half-time to help Liverpool FC secure a hard-fought 4-3 win over Salzburg after the Austrian side temporarily mounted a comeback.

Robertson has now scored two goals in 89 appearances for Liverpool FC since his move to the Anfield side from Hull City in the 2017 summer transfer window.

Asked to give their thoughts on Robertson’s goal, Mane bemusedly told BT Sport: “Oh, he finally scored!”

Salah added: “Yes, finally he scored!”

In spite of their initial jovial reactions to Robertson’s goal, Salah went on to praise the Scottish defender:

“We’re happy for him. He doesn’t score a lot, but he’s given everything in the game, he’s given everything for the team, so we’re really happy for him.”

Liverpool FC will take on third-placed Leicester City at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds are looking to win the Premier League title for the first time after finishing in second place last term.
