Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville rates Liverpool FC's chances of title glory
Gary Neville believes Liverpool FC are big favourites to win the Premier League title this season barring injuries to Mohamed Salah or Virgil van Dijk.
The Reds started the Premier League weekend five points ahead of defending champions Manchester City after Pep Guardiola’s side dropped points in a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur and a 3-2 loss at Norwich City.
Liverpool FC were easing towards a 1-0 win over Leicester City thanks to Sadio Mane’s goal before James Maddison equalised for the visitors with 10 minutes left to go.
The Merseyside outfit dug deep to etch out a late win after James Milner scored from the penalty spot in the fifth minute of added time to secure a 2-1 victory.
Manchester City suffered a surprise 2-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers at The Etihad to fall further behind Liverpool FC after just eight games in the season.
Liverpool FC are eight points ahead of the defending champions to put Jurgen Klopp’s side in a strong position, although there are still 90 points to play for this term.
Former Manchester United defender Neville believes that Liverpool FC won’t let the title slip from their grasp.
“Liverpool are definitely big favourites, but if Van Dijk gets injured, or Salah gets injured it can change,” Neville told Sky Sports. “There’s thirty games to go.”
He continued: “I don’t think they can lose it from here”.
Liverpool FC will take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday 20 October before the Reds will face Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday 10 November.
On the Merseyside outfit’s upcoming fixtures, Neville added: “As much as United are in a difficult moment, it’s one of their toughest games.
“Then Liverpool face City in a few weeks as well. Liverpool have games coming up that they could drop points in – they might not.”
Liverpool FC finished in second place in the Premier League title race last term despite earning 97 points.
