Paul Merson has ruled out the possibility of Liverpool FC winning the Premier League title without losing a game this season.

The Reds are strong favourites to win the Premier League crown thanks to their eight-point lead at the top of the table.

Liverpool FC were 2-1 winners against Leicester City at Anfield last weekend thanks to James Milner’s winner from the penalty spot in added time.

The 33-year-old’s late spot-kick hoisted Liverpool FC eight points clear of defending Premier League champions Manchester City.

The Citizens then failed to close the gap after a 2-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers at The Etihad.

Liverpool FC finished a point adrift of the Premier League champions last season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side lost one game – a 2-1 defeat by Manchester City – throughout the entire 2018-19 Premier League campaign.

Liverpool FC have won their last 17 Premier League games in a row to underline their incredible form.

But former Arsenal midfielder Merson doesn’t believe Liverpool FC can finish the Premier League campaign unbeaten.

“Liverpool won’t go unbeaten, not a chance. What Arsenal did all those years ago, that’s some going,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“What Liverpool are doing, winning all these games on the trot, though, is ridiculous.

“They weren’t great the other day. When Leicester got to 1-1, they looked like the team that might nick it, even though Liverpool didn’t deserve to lose.

“For 70-odd minutes they were the better team, but they just kept on going and you have to get some breaks every now and again.

“No-one is going to look back on October 5 and remember the penalty, but that spot-kick could’ve been a massive, massive goal.

“When you win league titles, everybody forgets about what happens in October and November. Everybody just thinks about what happened in April or May, but the penalty could be massive in the context of the title race.”

Liverpool FC will make the trip to struggling Manchester United in their next fixture on Sunday 20 October before the Reds host Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

The Merseyside outfit will take on defending Premier League champions Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday 10 November in a top of the table clash.
