Sky Sports pundit points out Liverpool FC’s ‘vulnerability’
Charlie Nicholas gives his take on Liverpool FC's start to the new Premier League campaign
Charlie Nicholas believes that Liverpool FC are looking more “vulnerable” at the back than they did last season.
The Reds have made a superb start to the new season and they currently find themselves top of the table after having built an eight point lead over Manchester City.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have won all eight of their Premier League games this term to underline their status as genuine title contenders once again.
Liverpool FC missed out on the title by a single point last season as Manchester City won the trophy on the final day of the campaign back in May.
The Reds currently have the best defensive record in the Premier League, with Klopp’s men having only conceded six goals so far.
However, former Arsenal star Nicholas seems to think that the Merseyside outfit are not looking as steady at the back as they did last term.
Speaking in an interview with Sporting Life, Nicholas said: “Liverpool have a vulnerability at the back that wasn’t evident last season.
“They stumbled against Leicester and Sheffield United. That luck balances out over the course of a season.
“They are not playing as close to the efficiency of last year, but that is not to say they can’t – anybody, at any given time, can beat anybody. This is the Premier League.
“Last season, although Liverpool were ahead, Pep Guardiola had a really good go at his team and was angry with them for about three weeks and he got a reaction.
“I think Liverpool will drop points along the way and Man City will close the gap at some point.
“They have tough places to go.”
Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action on Sunday when they travel to Old Trafford to take on arch rivals Manchester United.
The Reds are looking to make it nine wins on the spin in the Premier League as they continue their title assault.
