Arsenal chief Raul Sanllehi has met with former FC Barcelona boss Luis Enrique, according to a report
Arsenal chief Raul Sanllehi has met with Luis Enrique to discuss the possibility of him taking over the reins from Unai Emery, according to a report in Spain.
Spanish media outlet El Confidencial, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that Arsenal have held discussions with the former FC Barcelona manager.
The same article states that Enrique was on Arsenal’s original shortlist to replace Arsene Wenger before Emery was appointed in May 2018.
According to the same story, Sanllehi is actively working on finding a successor for the current Arsenal manager.
Enrique won two La Liga titles, three Copa del Rey trophies and the Champions League during his stint in charge of FC Barcelona.
The Gunners lost more ground on the Premier League’s top four on Saturday evening following a 2-0 loss to Leicester City.
Goals from Jamie Vardy and James Maddison sealed a 2-0 win for the home side at the King Power Stadium.
Chelsea FC and Leicester are nine points ahead of Arsenal in the race to secure a top-four spot.
Arsenal signed six new players in the summer as the Gunners board backed Emery in the transfer market.
The north London side spent a club record £72m fee on Lille winger Nicolas Pepe to bolster their attack.
However, the summer signing has struggled to hit the ground running at The Emirates.
