Joe Cole has likened Chelsea FC star Reece James to David Beckham after his cameo performance in Tuesday night’s 4-4 draw with Ajax.

The 19-year-old came off the bench to score Chelsea FC’s equaliser at Stamford Bridge after the Blues initially trailed 4-1 in the group-stage clash.

The Chelsea FC teenager’s crossing ability caused problems for nine-man Ajax in the final 20 minutes in west London.

James has now scored two goals in eight games in all competitions this season as the teenager looks make his mark under current Chelsea FC boss Frank Lampard.

Former Chelsea FC midfielder Cole lifted the lid on a training session that the BT Sport pundit shared with James.

“When I was playing in America [with Tampa Bay Rowdies], I came around to train with the kids [at Chelsea],” Cole told BT Sport.

“We were having shooting session and the kids’ shooting was erratic, but James was on the money, whipping crosses, it was like watching Beckham.”

James scored three times in 46 games in all competitions during a season-long loan at Wigan Athletic in the Championship last term.

The English teenager scored one goal and made two assists in Chelsea FC’s 7-1 win against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup back in September.

Lampard has given Chelsea FC’s youngsters a chance to shine in the first team this season after the club legend took over the reins from Maurizio Sarri in the summer.

Chelsea FC are in fourth position in the Premier League table with a six-point cushion over the chasing pack.
