Jamie Redknapp has likened Chelsea FC midfielder Jorginho to Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric.

The Italy international produced an influential performance in Chelsea FC’s 2-1 win against Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.

Jorginho provided a brilliant assist to help Tammy Abraham break the deadlock in the fifth minute against the Hornets.

The former Napoli midfielder proved to be influential in the middle of the park after he finished with 94 per cent pass completion.

Jorginho has played a key role in the Chelsea FC team under Frank Lampard this season.

The 27-year-old has scored one goal and has made two assists in 11 appearances so far this season.

Former Liverpool FC captain Redknapp likened Jorginho to Real Madrid legend Modric.

“He [Jorginho] has probably thought he would be surplus to requirements but it has been completely the opposite,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“He has been brilliant since he has come in because he stands up, makes challenges and intercepts the ball.

“Jorginho probably doesn’t get the credit because he doesn’t make the pass or the assist as often as some others do.

“But it was a bit like Luka Modric when he was in the Premier League. We all thought: ‘He doesn’t score many goals, he doesn’t get many assists…”‘

Jorginho moved to Chelsea FC in a £57m deal from Serie A side Napoli in the 2018 summer transfer window.

The Italian midfielder was a controversial figure under Maurizio Sarri last term.

Jorginho’s arrival resulted in N’Golo Kante being played out of position in the Blues team.

This tactical switch attracted criticism from some Chelsea FC fans and some ex-players.

Chelsea FC are in fourth place in the Premier League table and six points ahead of Arsenal in the race to secure a Champions League spot.

The Blues will take on Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge next weekend.
