‘I believe in his qualities’: Lampard underlines his faith in Chelsea FC star
Frank Lampard talks up Kurt Zouma's importance at Chelsea FC this season
Frank Lampard has admitted that he has been thrilled by Kurt Zouma’s performances for Chelsea FC this season.
The French defender has been a regular fixture in the first-team at Stamford Bridge under Lampard after having spent the last two seasons out on loan.
Zouma has formed a solid partnership with Fikayo Tomori in the heart of Chelsea FC’s defence in the absences of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
The 25-year-old had started eight of Chelsea FC’s 11 Premier League games heading into their home clash against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
Lampard insists that he has always had faith in Zouma and he has been delighted by his performances in a Chelsea FC shirt this season.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Chelsea FC’s website, Lampard said: “What Kurt has done, which is not easy, is to go out on loan and people then start to consider you something different from a Chelsea player.
“I never did. I told him very early in pre-season that he was part of my plans here and I believe in his qualities.
“I try to give him that confidence and he has got better and better as the season goes on.
“He is a bit of a leader in the group, strong physically to look at but a quality player, so I am delighted with how he plays.”
Chelsea FC are currently in the Premier League’s top four and they will return to top-flight action after the international break with a crunch clash away to Manchester City on 23 November.
The Blues are aiming to maintain their spot in the top four this season after they finished third under Maurizio Sarri last term.
