Jamie Carragher took to social media to pay tribute to Liverpool FC’s mental strength after the Reds came from a goal down to claim a thrilling 2-1 victory at Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds looked to be heading to their first Premier League defeat of the season at Villa Park after Trezeguet fired the home side into the lead in the 21st minute.

Liverpool FC controversially had a goal ruled out for offside by VAR in the first half after Roberto Firmino had bundled home.

However, with Aston Villa heading towards the three points, Andy Robertson headed home a vital equaliser in the 87th minute.

And the incredible comeback was completed by Sadio Mane in the fourth minute of stoppage time when the Senegal international headed in a winner.

Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher could not hide his delight at the final whistle as he took to Twitter and wrote: “Mentality Monsters! #ASVLIV.”

The result left Liverpool FC six points clear at the top of the Premier League table after Manchester City also came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory against Southampton.

The Reds will take on Genk in the Champions League at Anfield in midweek before they turn their attentions back to the Premier League and their crunch clash against defending champions Manchester City at Anfield next weekend.

Jurgen Klopp’s men – the Champions League holders – are looking to go one step further than they did last season and lift the Premier League trophy after they finished just a point short of Manchester City.
