Scott McTominay targeting three trophies with Man United this season
Scott McTominay wants Man United to target a treble of cup competitions this season
Scott McTominay says Manchester United should be aiming to win three major trophies this season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
It has been something of a difficult start to the new campaign for Solskjaer’s side, with Manchester United having struggled to produce consistent form in the Premier League.
The Red Devils currently find themselves well off the pace in the race for Champions League qualification and a top-four finish this season as they look to try and climb the top-flight table.
Midfielder McTominay has been in solid form for Manchester United so far this season and he has scored two goals and made one assist in 11 Premier League games for the Red Devils.
The Scot was last week named as the club’s player of the month for October following his strong performances for Solskjaer’s men.
Manchester United are still competing in the League Cup and Europa League, and they will begin their FA Cup campaign in the third round in January.
McTominay has revealed his delight at winning the individual award for the second month running, but his main focus is on helping the Red Devils challenge for trophies this season.
Speaking in an interview with Manchester United’s website, McTominay said: “It’s pleasing to win a couple of individual trophies, it’s a nice feeling.
“But it’s difficult when we’ve had a lot of games. It’s a very, very busy period and three or four of the lads could have easily won it as well. So I was fortunate and I thank the fans for voting for me.
“The more important thing is that, when it comes to the business side of the season, we’re there or thereabouts and we can win things collectively as a group. That’s what everybody is dying for in that changing room.
“We could have three trophies this season and it’s something that we’re really looking forward to and aspiring to in terms of a group and our goals as well.
“It’s brilliant to win Player of the Month, but it’s about the collective and I wouldn’t be able to win it without my team-mates.”
The midfielder will be expecting to start for the Red Devils when they take on Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
