Manchester United are retaining an interest in Burnley winger Dwight McNeil despite allowing the teenager to leave Old Trafford five years ago, according to a report in England.

The Sun is reporting that the Red Devils are keeping tabs on the Burnley midfielder following McNeil’s impressive start to the Premier League season at Turf Moor.

The same article states that Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has sent scouts to watch the Burnley star in action in the current Premier League campaign.

According to the same story, Sean Dyche would be looking to secure a transfer fee in the region of £35m if Burnley were to sell McNeil in the future.

The Sun go on to add that McNeil remains a big Manchester United supporters, although Burnley would prefer to keep the winger rather than sell their young asset.

The media outlet reveal that Manchester United decided to release McNeil due to concerns about his inability to live up to standards at Old Trafford as well as his poor set-pieces.

Manchester United are in tenth place in the Premier League table and 10 points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea FC.

The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium last weekend after another former youth graduate Joshua King netted the winner.
