Manchester United are considering a shock swoop to sign former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko from AS Roma, according to a report in England.

ESPN FC is reporting that Manchester United are weighing up a potential January swoop to sign the 33-year-old from the Serie A giants.

The same article states that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to add reinforcements to his Red Devils squad in the January transfer window.

According to the same story, the Red Devils boss is eager to add a proven goal-scorer to Manchester United’s ranks to bolster his attack.

ESPN FC go on to add that Dzeko has moved ahead of Mario Mandzukic in Solskjaer’s wish-list due to the Croatian’s lack of football this term.

The report adds that Manchester United have retained a tentative interest in the Juventus forward despite being frozen out in Turin this season.

Manchester United have been left short on forward options in Solskjaer’s squad after Romelu Lukaku was sold to Inter Milan in the summer.

Alexis Sanchez completed a loan move to the San Siro outfit to leave Manchester United, with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial as their only proven goal-scorers.

Manchester United are in seventh position in the Premier League table and nine points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City.
