Manchester United are interested in a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz, according to a report in England.

The Daily Star, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Red Devils are interested in a deal to sign one of Bundesliga’s most exciting prospects.

The same article states that Manchester United vice chairman Ed Woodward is confident the Red Devils can sign the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder.

According to the same story, the 20-time English champions can expect to face competition from FC Barcelona, Juventus and Bayern Munich.

The report goes on to state that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eager to sign a player who can improve the right side of his midfield.

With that in mind, the Manchester United manager has made Havertz his first-choice target for the summer transfer window, according to the article.

The report concludes that Bayern Leverkusen would be looking to secure a fee in the region of £80m for Havertz.

Manchester United spent nearly £150m on new signings in the summer, adding Swansea City winger Daniel James, Leicester City defender Harry Maguire and Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The Red Devils are in tenth place in the Premier League table and 10 points adrift of Leicester City and Chelsea FC in the top-four race.
