Sky Sports is reporting that the Red Devils have decided against a potential deal to bring the veteran striker back to Old Trafford in the new year.
The forward is set to leave MLS side LA Galaxy on a free transfer and that has triggered speculation that he could be set for a return to Manchester United.
However, the same story says that Manchester United are likely to look elsewhere as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to bolster his attacking line-up next year.
The article also says that Solskjaer remains hopeful of being able to bolster his strike-force when the January transfer window opens.
Manchester United have been left light on options up front after the Red Devils opted to allow both Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku to leave the club in the summer.
The Red Devils have struggled to find consistent form this season and they currently find themselves down in seventh place in the Premier League table and nine points adrift of the top four.
They will return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Sheffield United away from home.
