Mikel Arteta is eager to become the next Arsenal manager, according to a report in England.
The Sun is reporting that the Manchester City assistant manager is desperate to take over the reins of the north London side.
The same article states that Arteta is on Arsenal’s 12-man shortlist as the Gunners weigh up their next managerial appointment.
According to the same story, the Spanish coach is placed quite high on their shortlist of candidates to succeed Unai Emery.
The Sun goes on to add Arsenal are attracted to Arteta due to his close working relationship and tutelage under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
However, the story also says that the former Arsenal and Everton midfielder wants assurances from the north London board about some key issues.
The Sun goes on to quote an Etihad source as saying: “Mikel wants the job but wants to know what is on offer and guarantees from them.
“He will then speak to the club. Nothing is going to happen before the end of this week from what we can tell.
“Mikel is conflicted because of his relationship with Pep and feeling for City after the years there.
“He has been excellent since he got here and there is a feeling he is going to be a top manager one day.”
Arsenal secured their first win under caretaker manager Freddie Ljungberg earlier this week after the Gunners were 3-1 winners against West Ham United at the London Stadium.
Goals from Gabriel Martinelli, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang helped to secure a three points from Ljungberg’s side.
Arsenal will return to Premier League action with a home clash against Arteta’s current employers Manchester City.
The Gunners finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last term.
