‘We knew’: Mason Mount reacts to Chelsea FC’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa
Mason Mount has his say on Chelsea FC's 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League on Wednesday night
Mason Mount has insisted that Chelsea FC “knew” that they had to improve after they returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
The Blues headed into the game looking to try and return to winning ways after having suffered back to back Premier League defeats against Manchester City and West Ham United.
Tammy Abraham, who had recovered from a hip injury to be able to start, fired the home side into the lead in the 24th minute at Stamford Bridge with a solid header.
Trezeguet equalised for Villa against the run of play four minutes before half-time to leave the tie level at the break.
However, it was Mount who ended up being the hero as the England international netted the winner in the 48th minute with a superb volley.
Mount admitted that Chelsea FC had known that they had no choice but to step their game up for the visit of the Villains on Wednesday night.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the victory, Mount said: “We knew the performance against West Ham wasn’t good enough, we knew we had to win more matches at home and be dominant.
“We did that, won more tackles and second balls, and we could have scored more goals.
“It fell to me – and me and Tammy spoke about that, that he would set me up if he didn’t have space.”
Chelsea FC’s win left them in fourth place in the Premier League table as they look to continue their push towards Champions League qualification.
Next up for the Blues is a trip to Everton on Saturday lunchtime in the top flight.
