Frank Lampard reveals his one major gripe with Chelsea FC this season
Frank Lampard says his Chelsea FC team need to take more of their chances in front of goal
Frank Lampard has admitted that he wants his Chelsea FC team to be more clinical in front of goal.
The Blues secured their place in the knockout phase of the Champions League on Tuesday night thanks to a 2-1 victory over Lille in their final group game at Stamford Bridge.
Tammy Abraham and Cesar Azpilicueta both netted in the first half for the Blues to put Lampard’s men in control of the tie, before Loic Remy netted a consolation goal for the French side late on.
Abraham has been in good form this season, with the young striker having netted 13 goals in all competitions for Lampard’s men so far.
However, despite the promising form of the young England forward, Lampard feels that his side need to step up their performances in front of goal and take more of their chances this season.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Wednesday night, Lampard said: “We need to take more of our chances. That’s a fact. Because you leave teams slightly in the game.
“They [Lille] probably had two shots at the back-end of the game and one goes in.
“So that was a frustrating thing in a very good performance. I can never doubt that the lads have given everything, but the reality is we need to be better in their box.
“We need to take more of our chances – whether it’s the Premier League or the Champions League.”
Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Bournemouth to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues currently find themselves in fourth place in the table but looking for a win after having lost three of their last four games in the English top flight.
