Frank Lampard reveals Chelsea FC’s January transfer plans
Chelsea FC manager Frank Lampard looks ahead to the January transfer window
Frank Lampard has revealed that Chelsea FC will consider strengthening in all departments during the January transfer window.
The Blues had their Fifa transfer ban halved by the Court of Arbitration for Sport last week meaning that they are now free to make signings in the new year.
With Chelsea FC having not signed any new players in the summer due to the suspension, the west London side are bound to be linked with a host of potential signings in the January window.
January is Lampard’s first chance to add to his squad since taking over in the summer, and the Blues boss says that he will take a look at all areas of his squad ahead of the window.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Sky Sports, Lampard said when asked about his plans for January: “I would always look at all areas for the team.
“In the summer we lost Eden Hazard, who was a huge part of scoring and creating our goals last season – and the season before that, to be fair.
“I think we’ve found ways in the team where we can still be competitive.
“We’re showing that in the league and in the Champions League. But going forward, can we get even better?
“Can we get better in forward areas, to help our competition and to help the idea that we can be more clinical? I think we will always look at that.”
Asked whether spending in January would hamper his young players, Lampard replied: “No, I don’t think it is a concern at all. Because they are here to stay. I believe in the quality of the young players here.
“I want them all to get better and they will improve, for sure, because of the age of them and because of where they are in their development.
“But as we move forward and we want to improve the squad, it will be done with a view to what we have and where we can get better. I think those sort of challenges should be ones that the young players stand up to.
“If we do bring players in, that should be one where they say: ‘Okay, I want to show the player I am.’ Knowing them as players and personalities, I think they have all got that.”
Chelsea FC are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table as they chase Champions League qualification this season.
They will return to top-flight action on Saturday afternoon when they host Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea FC are looking to return to winning ways after their defeat by Everton last weekend left them with just one win from their last four in the Premier League.
