Frank Lampard provides latest injury update on Chelsea FC duo
Frank Lampard delivers the latest injury news and update on Chelsea FC duo Antonio Rudiger and Ross Barkley
Frank Lampard has revealed that both Ross Barkley and Antonio Rudiger should be available for selection again in the coming days.
Barkley has not featured for Chelsea FC since the 1-0 win over Newcastle United back at the end of October.
The England midfielder has been ill over the last few days and although he returned to training this week, he was forced to sit out Chelsea FC’s clash with Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Rudiger is on his way towards a comeback from a long-term injury and Lampard has now confirmed that the defender is closing in on a comeback for the west London side.
Speaking at a news conference before Wednesday’s clash with Aston Villa, Lampard delivered the following injury update on both players.
“Ross Barkley has been sick, he was ill Sunday night,” Lampard explained. “He is in this morning but not recovered enough to be available [for the Villa clash].
“He has been training well. That has never been a huge issue and now he has to keep that level and push that level and compete for a place. That is up to Ross now.
“Toni Rudiger is close. He has stepped up his training, particularly in the last week, so we are hopeful he will be available in the next week to 10 days.”
Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action on Saturday lunchtime when they take on Everton away from home at Goodison Park.
They will then switch their attentions back towards Champions League affairs and their home clash against French side Lille at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
Chelsea FC are aiming to maintain their spot in the top four this season after they finished third and won the Europa League under Maurizio Sarri last term.
