Frank Lampard believes that Mason Mount’s contribution to the Chelsea FC team should not be measured purely on goals.

The England international has been a regular fixture in the Blues team this season and he has been impressing in Lampard’s young side.

Mount scored in Chelsea FC’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge as the Blues returned to winning ways in the top flight.

The 20-year-old has now scored five goals and made one assist in 15 Premier League games for the Blues this season and he has also featured five times in the Champions League.

Lampard was pleased with Mount’s contribution on Wednesday night but he chose to underline that his value to the Chelsea FC team goes further than just goals.

Speaking at his post-match news conference, Lampard said: “I don’t think Mason should be measured solely on goals.

“We had an international break and he did not start a couple of games but goals are part of his game and his all-round game in the second half is what we expect of him.

“Because it wasn’t just the goal, it was the threat he had from the edge of the box, his link-up and his winning the ball back in high areas which is his game.

“I thought he had a really good second half.”

Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action on Saturday lunchtime when they travel to Everton in the top flight.

The Blues – who have won nine of their 15 games this term – currently find themselves in fourth place in the Premier League table as they chase Champions League qualification this season in what is Lampard’s first campaign in charge.
