The Chelsea FC defender has only made a single appearance for Chelsea FC this season, missing the start of the campaign with a knee problem and then suffering a fresh setback on his return.
Rudiger has not featured for Chelsea FC since the 5-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League back on 14 September.
The 26-year-old Germany international has been working hard on his fitness levels behind closed doors and Lampard has now confirmed that the defender will be back in action soon.
Asked about Rudiger’s condition at a news conference before Chelsea FC’s Premier League clash with West Ham United, Lampard replied: “He’s getting closer, he had a really good week’s work.
“The reality is he’s not played for a very long time so it’s a mini pre-season. Now the injury hopefully is over, we need to get him properly fit.
“He’s working very hard. It’s days and weeks rather than months which is great news for us.”
Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action on Wednesday night when they host Aston Villa in the top flight.
The Blues currently find themselves as one of the front-runners to secure a top-four finish this season.
Lampard has been tasked with keeping Chelsea FC in the top four this season after they finished third under Maurizio Sarri and won the Europa League last term.
