Chelsea FC ‘expected’ to launch offer for 24-year-old defender – report
Chelsea FC are ready to re-sign Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake, according to a report
Chelsea FC will make an offer to re-sign Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake in the January transfer widow, according to a report in England.
The Guardian is reporting that the Blues are interested in a swoop to sign the Netherlands international to improve their defensive options.
The same article states that Chelsea FC manager Frank Lampard is eager to improve the west London side’s defence following their leaky performances.
According to the same story, the Blues believe that a deal for Ake wouldn’t be complicated to secure despite Bournemouth’s presumed reluctance to lose their key defender.
The Guardian goes on to report that Chelsea FC inserted a clause in their deal with Bournemouth when they sold Ake to the south coast outfit in a £29m transfer in 2017.
That clause reportedly means that the Blues would be able to sign the 24-year-old for less than £40m, which would represent a bargain deal given that Manchester United spent £80m on Leicester centre-half Harry Maguire in the summer.
Ake has scored 10 goals in 98 games in all competitions over the past three seasons.
Chelsea FC are in fourth place in the Premier League table in the race to secure a Champions League qualification spot next term.
The Blues booked their place in the Champions League round of 16 thanks to a 2-1 win against Lille.
