Mark Lawrenson is confident that Chelsea FC will recover from their mini-blip to beat Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

The Blues succumbed to a 1-0 loss to West Ham United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night as they suffered successive Premier League defeats.

Aaron Cresswell’s 42nd-minute winner secured three points for the struggling Hammers side as Chelsea FC lost back-to-back league games.

Chelsea FC’s winning run was brought to an end by defending champions Manchester City last month after the Blues lost 2-1 at The Etihad.

However, Frank Lampard’s side have acquitted themselves well in the club legend’s first season in charge of the west London outfit.

Chelsea FC still have a six-point cushion over fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the visit of Aston Villa.

Aston Villa secured a point in a 2-2 draw at Manchester United after captain Jack Grealish and centre-half Tyrone Mings both found the net.

Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is backing Chelsea FC to ease to a 2-0 victory over the promoted side at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

“Chelsea’s home defeat by West Ham on Saturday was a very strange result when you consider how both teams had been playing, but I think it was just a blip,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“Villa’s away record is poor in terms of results, but they have produced some good performances – like they did in their draw at Old Trafford on Sunday for example.

“Jack Grealish is playing well, and Villa will pose an attacking threat, but I still think Chelsea will come out on top.”

Chelsea FC are looking to secure a top-four finish in Lampard’s first season in charge of the west London outfit.

The Blues have failed to win their last three games in all competitions following losses to Manchester City and West Ham as well as a 2-2 draw at Valencia in the Champions League.
