‘They’ll edge this one’: Sky Sports pundit predicts Chelsea FC v Aston Villa
Charlie Nicholas is backing Chelsea FC to claim a 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Wednesday night
Charlie Nicholas is backing Chelsea FC to edge to a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in Wednesday night’s home clash at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues head into the game looking to try and return to winning ways after the disappointment of their surprise 1-0 loss to West Ham United at Stamford Bridge at the weekend.
That defeat was their second in a row in the Premier League and came after their 2-1 loss at the hands of Manchester City the weekend before.
Those two losses have dealt a blow to Chelsea FC’s top four hopes, with Frank Lampard’s men currently in fourth place in the Premier League table heading into the hectic festive period in the Premier League.
Aston Villa head into the game after having produced an impressive display to claim a 2-2 draw with Manchester United at the weekend.
Former Arsenal star Nicholas, however, is backing Chelsea FC to edge to victory and get back to winning ways in the Premier League.
Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Nicholas said: “Chelsea have had the stumble that we’ve been predicting would come.
“A lot of players are not getting the game time they want, but he needs the youngsters in the squad to perform.
“We have not seen much of Callum Hudson-Odoi recently, while Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham have had a couple of knocks to deal with. This tells you how the squad is being stretched. Chelsea will be up and down for the remainder of the season in my opinion.
“Meanwhile, Aston Villa impressed at Old Trafford, and that is exactly where you want Jack Grealish to be playing. I want him just off the left and attacking the defence.
“To be honest, I think Villa are better than what the table suggests, but I cannot trust them defensively, and for that reason I think Chelsea will edge this one.”
Chelsea FC are aiming to try and finish in the top four this season after they ended up third under Maurizio Sarri last term.
They will return to Premier League action with a trip to Chelsea FC on Saturday lunchtime.
