Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Chelsea FC v Bournemouth
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Chelsea FC to beat Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon
Mark Lawrenson is backing Chelsea FC to ease to a straightforward win against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues booked their place in the Champions League knockout stage thanks to a 2-1 win against Ligue 1 side Lille at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
Frank Lampard will be eager to work on improving his side’s Premier League form after securing their place in the Champions League last 16.
Chelsea FC lost 3-1 to Everton in the Premier League last weekend to further loosen their grip on fourth place after Manchester United’s winning run.
The west London side have lost three of their last four Premier League games after defeats by Manchester City, West Ham United and Everton.
Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is backing Chelsea FC to make a return to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
“It is five defeats in a row now for Bournemouth, and it is hard to see that run ending here,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“The Cherries have got a long list of injuries to contend with, especially at the back, and I just do not see them keeping Chelsea out.
“There will be a spring in everyone’s step in the Blues squad after they secured their place in the last 16 of the Champions League this week, and Lampard has got good competition for places in his squad.
“Scoring goals does not seem to be a problem for them either and although they have had the occasional blip – like last week’s defeat at Everton – I think Chelsea are in decent shape right now.”
Chelsea FC are in fourth place in the Premier League table and five points ahead of Manchester United.
The Blues appointed Lampard as Maurizio Sarri’s successor in the summer.
Lampard has been widely praised for bringing through some of the west London club’s young talent, such as Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori.
