Michael Owen is confident that Manchester City will return to winning ways with a victory at Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday night.

The defending Premier League champions suffered a 2-1 loss to bitter rivals Manchester United in the Manchester derby at The Etihad at the weekend.

The Citizens have only managed to win three of their last six Premier League games, losing to Liverpool FC and Manchester United as well as drawing 2-2 at Newcastle United.

Manchester City are 14 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool FC, leaving their hopes of retaining the Premier League title for a second successive season in tatters.

However, the Eastland outfit’s struggles in the Premier League does allow Pep Guardiola to concentrate on trying to win the Champions League for the first time in Manchester City’s history.

The Citizens have already qualified for the knockout stage but Manchester City will be eager to build some momentum with a win in Zagreb.

Former Manchester United striker Owen is backing Manchester City to beat Dinamo Zagreb in their final Champions League group-stage fixture on Wednesday night.

“Dinamo can still qualify for the last 16 if they beat group winners Manchester City and Shakhtar fail to beat Atalanta in the other tie,” Owen told BetVictor.

“City lost at home to United at the weekend and they currently sit 14 points behind leaders Liverpool in the Premier League which will hurt all involved at the club.

“The Croatian side must come out and attack City and that is likely to allow the visitors to hit them on the break. I expect City to return to winning ways.”

Manchester City won their first three games in Group C – at Shakhtar (3-0) and at home to Dinamo and Atalanta (5-1).

However, their winning run came to an end following a 1-1 draw with Atalanta in Italy before a 1-1 stalemate with Shakhtar at The Etihad.
