Jurgen Klopp opted to make four changes to his Liverpool FC team for the visit of the Toffees, although Adrian’s inclusion was forced after Alisson Becker’s red card last time out.
Sadio Mane was the only member of Klopp’s deadly attack to retain his place in the Liverpool FC team as Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino got a rest.
The Senegal international teed up Divock Origi to break the deadlock in the sixth minute before Xherdan Shaqiri got on the end of Mane’s pass to double the home side’s lead.
Origi scored his second goal of the night when the Belgium international brought down Dejan Lovren’s long ball before he produced a deft finish over Jordan Pickford.
Mane completed a sensational first-half performance with his ninth Premier League goal of the season when he slotted past Pickford after Alexander-Arnold’s pass.
Everton hit back with goals of their own through Michael Keane and Richarlison in the opening 45 minutes but the Toffees never really troubled Liverpool FC.
Georginio Wijnaldum sealed three points in added time at the end of the derby following Roberto Firmino’s excellent run.
Former Everton striker Lineker took to Twitter to rave about the performances of Alexander-Arnold and Mane in the Merseyside derby at Anfield.
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “Another Mane goal. Another
@trentaa98 assist. Trent sees everything when he has the ball. Sadio scores everything when he has the ball.”
Liverpool FC’s fifth successive Premier League win cemented their eight-point lead at the top of the table after 15 games.
The Reds will make the trip to Bournemouth in their next Premier League game on Saturday before Watford travel to Anfield in Liverpool FC’s final top-flight game before the Fifa Club World Cup.
